Tree Peonies
Tree peonies, or 牡丹 Mudan in Chinese, are long-lived deciduous woody shrubs native to China that will grow in USDA zones 4-9. There are several wild species which have contributed genetics to the cultivated tree peony, Paeonia suffruticosa. The mid to late spring blossoms of tree peonies are unrivaled in size, color and fragrance. Though somewhat slow growing, a mature tree peony can have over fifty, 8-10’’ flowers and will bloom for about two weeks. Tree peonies are deer resistant and fairly drought tolerant once established. Plant in well drained fertile soil with 5-6 hours of sun. Tree peonies bloom on ‘old wood’ and are not cut back in the fall. See our Learn section for more information on tree peony care and their long history as cultivated plants.

If a plant is currently marked as "coming soon" this means that we have already sold out of our initial inventory.
For those who were not able to place an order for your desired variety at this time, we will be posting more availability as we see how the crop grows over the course of the season. Likely we will be able to make some additions in the next few weeks and again after we dig the plants in early September.
