Notable characteristics: Slightly ruffled silken single form flowers are borne in great profusions on this lower growing Japanese tree peony. 

The full name of this tree peony is 'Flight of the Cranes of Shimane Prefecture.' Shimane, located on the southwestern coast of the main island of Japan, has been a famous area of peony production in Japan since the 18th century. 

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright growth habit. Vigorous grower, to 2.5' tall and 2.5' wide.

Flower form and size: Somewhat ruffled, single, 8-10".

Flower fragrance: Light and floral.

Bloom time: Late mid-season tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May.

Zone hardiness: USDA zones 4-9.
