Name in Japanese & romaji: 玉芙蓉 Tamafuyo

Notable characteristics: Opens slightly reddish pink, fading to a lighter shade of pink. Inner petals are spoon shaped. Inside the flower, the stigma and sheath are reddish purple. Tall growing.

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright, grows to 4' tall and 3.5' wide.

Flower form and size: Ruffled semi-double, 8".

Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet.

Bloom time: Mid- to late season Japanese tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May.

Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.

Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have 1 woody stem, with offshoot buds, and a well developed root system. Size of plant with foliage the first year is 12-18" tall. Likely to bloom the second year in ground.
