Variety description: The great Russian plant breeder Ivan Michurin crossed Mountain Ash with Hawthorne to create this unique variety. 'Granatnaya' forms a hardy small tree with large and very attractive, dark green foliage. The wine red, tasty, sweet-tart fruit is the size of a pie cherry and is eaten fresh and used to make delicious wine and preserves. This tree's name means pomagrante in Russian.
Site requirements: Full sun location. Like other fruit trees in the rose family, it will due well in fertile, well drained soil. Soil pH of 6.5 is ideal.
