Notable characteristics: This beautiful hybrid is a result of a cross of P. lutea and a Japanese tree peony done by the eminent American peony breeder Prof. A.P. Saunders. The flowers defy easy description. In registering this variety with the American Peony Society, Saunders described the blossoms as "large semi-double pearled lavender with darker shadings, varied to palest green."  Semi-spreading habit, height at maturity 3'.

Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: Lutea hybird, Saunders, 1948.

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Spreading habit, to 3' tall and and 4' wide.

Flower form and size: Single to semi-double blossoms to 6-8".

Flower fragrance: Light, spicy-sweet.

Bloom time: Late season tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the first or second week of June.

Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.

Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have 1 woody stem with a vigorous root system. This size plant will most likely flower its second spring in the ground.
