Name in Japanese and romaji島の藤 Shimano-fuji

Notable characteristics: Softest lavender pink blossoms have a languid air. The petals are very large and when the blossoms are well supported on strong stems. Very prolific bloomer. Highly recommended. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.

Area of origin: This historic cultivar is from the famous peony growing region of Shimane prefecture in western Japan.

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright and slightly spreading growth. Vigorous, to 4' tall and 3.5' wide.

Flower form and size: Very ruffled semi-double, 8-10".

Flower fragrance: Light and floral.

Bloom time: Late mid-season tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May.

Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.

Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have 1 woody stem with a well developed root system. 
 This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground.
