Populus deltoides, ‘Purple Tower’
An English selection of the native poplar with broad spade-shaped lustrous leaves in a deep, dark red-purple. An upright relatively narrow grower, this tree can be maintained as a fastigiate element.
Size at maturity: 40' tall and 10' wide. Can be kept to a much smaller size with annual pruning. Does very well as a pollard specimen.
Site Selection: Ideally full-sun or light shade. Prefers moisture retentive but well drained soil. Ideal on the bank of a pond or stream.
Zone hardiness, Pests, & Diseases: Hardy to USDA zone 5-9. Pest and disease free.
