Beginning in 1988, we planted our first peonies and have expanded to about seven acres, creating a terraced woodland garden we call Peony Heaven. We enjoy sharing the beauty in bloom. Peonies are seductive and magical plants, and by far some of the largest and most beautiful flowers you can grow.

About Shipping Peonies
We will take orders and reserve your plants for the best planting time in fall dormancy. Depending on your USDA zone, your plants will be shipped at the right time for you to transplant during this time period. Colder areas will ship first in early September; our warmer zones get their peonies in late October and November.

Visiting The Garden

A trip to our garden/nursery will delight you. Our 7-acre garden, set in a terraced woodland, is open for visits in September - Thursday through Saturday only, 10 am to 4 pm.  The other days we are very busy digging plants and packing orders. If you are looking for some specific plants, it is best to call us in advance to inquire about pick up.

Come see our selection of potted peonies and East Asian plants. We have many container plants, though not every variety we list on our web site is potted. Many are field grown and we will reserve for fall digging.  

We have a good selection of tree peonies in 2 yr.-old, 4 yr.-old and older plants in containers, as well as herbaceous and intersectional peonies in 2 to 3 gallon size.

Cricket Hill Garden is a plant nursery established in 1989 devoted to introducing American gardeners to the beauty of Chinese tree and herbaceous peonies. Tree peonies are the Chinese national flower and have been popular since the 7th century. In fact, the tree peony is synonymous with the phrase "spring flower". Tree peonies represent good fortune, love and prosperity, and are considered the essence of the Yin (female) element in nature.

These woody shrubs reach an average size of 4-5 feet in height, growing well in USDA zones 4-9. It is our pleasure to introduce these great varieties of peonies in America. We were pioneers in seeking out and growing named cultivars and have established a reference garden for tree peonies. In addition to Chinese plants, we grow Japanese and American peonies. We search out the best tree, herbaceous and intersectional peonies and have grown more than 300 varieties before we offer them for sale.
