White Lotus, seed grown tree peony
Notable characteristics: Silky, upward facing flowers are white with dramatic reddish-purple to dark magenta flares at the base of the petals. A very attractive landscape plant, that will quickly grow into an impressive specimen. These seed grown plants are crosses of the Chinese tree peony Paeonia rockii and Japanese tree peonies. White petals, often traced with pale pink, radiate from maroon center flares. They are one-of-a-kind, seed grown plants, and there is some variability in flower form and color. These 5 year old plants have all bloomed, flower forms are all open, either single or light semi-double.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright, flowers held well above the foliage. Grows to about 4.5' tall and 4' wide.
Flower form and size: Lotus or light semi-double, 8-10". These seedlings tend to be very floriferous.
Flower fragrance: Sweet.
Bloom time: Mid-season blooming, flowers in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May or first week of June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
