Supreme Pink, Chinese tree peony
Name in Chinese and pin yin: 粉中冠 Fen Zhong Guan
Notable characteristics: Vigorous grower and prolific bloomer. Light pink flowers are held upright. Striking green petaloids in the center of the flower. Disease tolerant cultivar. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.
Cultivar group, area of origin: Central Plains group, Zhaolou Peony Garden in Heze city, 1973.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Spreading, grows to 3' tall and 3' wide.
Flower form and size: Crown double form, 8".
Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet.
Bloom time: Early blooming Chinese tree peony, consistently one of the first tree peonies to open in our garden, usually in the second week of May
Zone hardiness: Proven is USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 2 year old tree peonies have at least 2 woody stem and a proportional root system. This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground.
