Name in Chinese and pin yin: 麻葉紅 Ma Ye Hong
Notable characteristics: Iridescent reddish pink blossoms radiate an enchanting silvered glow. Lotus form single flowers have small petaloids around a golden ring of stamens. Great color and form. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: Central Plains group, Work Team 9 of the Zhaolou Peony Garden, Heze city, 1969.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright grower, grows to 4' tall and 3' wide.
Flower form and size: Lotus single form, 5-6" in diameter.
Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet, slight.
Bloom time: Late season Chinese tree peony, always the last Chinese tree peonies to bloom in our USDA zone 6A garden, usually in the last week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have at least 1 woody stem and a proportional root system. This size plant will most likely flower its second spring in the ground.
When we ship: Order now for FALL 2017 shipping. We operate like a CSA (community supported agriculture) where payment in received in advance of the harvest, and the produce is reserved for the customer. Our produce is our nursery stock, which can only be harvested in the fall, when the current season's growth is complete.
