Name in Chinese and pin yin:  紅樓藏金 Hong Lou Cang Jin

Notable characteristics: Flowers are very ruffled full doubles, in a deep reddish-magenta with darker purple tones. A complex and very beautiful flower. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.

Cultivar group, area of origin: P. rockii, developed by Chen Dezhong of the Peace Peony Garden in Lanzhou, Gansu province, introduced in 1986.

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright habit, grows to 4.5' tall and 3' wide.


Flower form and size: Double form, 8".

Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet, very fragrant.

Bloom time: Mid-season tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the third week of May.

Zone hardiness: Proven is USDA zones 4-9.

Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have at least 1 woody stem and a proportional root system. This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground.

When we ship: This peony is for Fall 2017 shipping only. Order to reserve now! 
We operate like a CSA (community supported agriculture) where payment in received in advance of the harvest, and the produce is reserved for the customer. Our produce is our nursery stock, which can only be harvested in the fall, when the current season's growth is complete.
