Variety description: An old variety introduced to Britain from Portugal in 1611, but probably known in antiquity. Light orange pear-shaped fruit, which ripens a little earlier than other varieties. The flesh is quite golden when cooked, with a strong, fragrant flavor. Grown in America since the early 19th century.
