Phoenix Pink, Chinese tree peony
Name in Chinese and pin yin: 鳳丹粉 Feng Dan Fen
Notable characteristics: Similar to 'Phoenix White' in every regard except with shell-pink flowers which fade to white. Planted in shadier areas, it will still grow and flower well. An added plus is that this cultivar will often exhibit foliage in shades of yellow-gold or reddish-bronze in the fall.

This is a cultivated variety of the wild species tree peony Paeonia ostii. It is a very versatile garden plant that is adaptable to harsh growing conditions. This type of tree peony has been grown for at least 500 years in central China. The roots of this tree peony are used in traditional Chinese medicine and are known as 丹皮 (dan pi). They possess "yin" qualities and are used in combination with other herbs to treat a range of maladies.
Place of origin: Ancient variety from Tongling County in Anhui Province, China.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Erect, reaches 5'. Very strong and fast growing.
Flower form and size: Single, 8-9".
Flower fragrance: Dense, sweet.
Bloom time: Early season Chinese tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the second week of May.

Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have 1 woody stem with a proportional root system. This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground.
When we ship: This plant will ship in FALL 2017. Order to reserve now! We operate like a CSA (community supported agriculture) where payment in received in advance of the harvest, and the produce is reserved for the customer. Our produce is our nursery stock, which can only be harvested in the fall, when the current season's growth is complete.
