Notable characteristics: The origins of the this plant are somewhat murky. It seemingly just showed up in bed in our display garden one year. It is either a self-sown seedling or the resilient rootstock of a long dead grafted tree peony. Either case would explain this plant’s exceptional vigor. Flowers are single, with good substance, about 8’’ in diameter. Opening with a purple pink blush, they fade to near white. Very prominent dark flares, golden stamens and red calyx make for an enchanting center.
This peony retains excellent foliage throughout our Connecticut humid summers. It routinely sets a copious amount of seed.
