Peony Heaven Purple Lotus, rockii tree peony

$ 79.00

Notable characteristics: We selected this outstanding plant from a group of seedling plants we received from a Chinese nursery in the late 1990s. Over the years we have culled many from this group; most were unremarkable, this one, however is special. Very floriferious, single mid-purple blossoms have the characteristic rockii dark flares at the base of the petals.  Blossoms are fragrant. The plant is upright and tall growing, reaching 5.5' with a pleasing vase shape. Highly recommended for the begging growing and connoisseur collector alike. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.

Hybridizer, year introduced: Selected at Cricket Hill Garden, we will be registering this variety with the American Peony Society this year.

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright habit, to 5.5' tall and 3' wide.

Flower form and size: Single form double flowers, 7-9".

Flower fragrance: Sweet, clove-like fragrance.

Bloom time: Mid-season Chinese tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the third or fourth week of May.

Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9. P. rockii cultivars are particularly drought resistant once established.

Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have at least 1 woody stem and a proportional root system. This size plant will most likely flower its second spring in the ground.

About us: Cricket Hill Garden is a family owned and operated nursery founded in 1989 and based in Connecticut. We propagate and grow the vast majority of the plants we sell. Most garden centers and nurseries do the opposite of this, 'buying in' and reselling most plants they offer. Growing our own stock allows us to offer the rare and unusual plants we sell as well as provide the highest quality plants to the discerning gardener. We do not use synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fungicides in our nursery production.
