Multi-Flowing Indigo, Chinese tree peony
Name in Chinese and pin yin: 多頭藍 Duo Tou Lan
Notable characteristics: Loose, chrysanthemum form, double blossoms are a delectable shade of light pinkish lavender. Distinctive blue-green foliage is elongated and pendulous, with long leaf stems. A rather compact grower, with the blossoms held well above the foliage. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: Central Plains cultivar group, this classical variety originates from the famous peony growing city of Heze, in Shandong province.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Semi-spreading habit, grows to 2.5' tall and 4' wide. Relatively slow growing.
Flower form and size: Lotus to double form, to 7".
Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet, very fragrant.
Bloom time: Mid-season Chinese tree peony, in our USDA zone 6A garden, blooms in the third week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have at least 1 woody stem and a proportional root system. This size plant will most likely flower its second spring in the ground.
When we ship: Order now for FALL 2017 shipping. We operate like a CSA (community supported agriculture) where payment in received in advance of the harvest, and the produce is reserved for the customer. Our produce is our nursery stock, which can only be harvested in the fall, when the current season's growth is complete.
