Name in Japanese and romaji: 島根聖代 Shimane Seidai

Notable characteristics: Enormous, loose double form flowers are dark pink upon opening and fade to a softer salmon tone as the flowers reach full bloom. 

Breeder, region of origin: This tree peony was introduced by Shigeto Kadowaki (門脇茂) in 1933 in Shimane prefecture. Shimane is a famous peony growing region in southwestern Japan.

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright growth habit. Vigorous grower, to 3.5' tall and 3' wide.

Flower form and size: Somewhat ruffled, semi-double, 8-10".

Flower fragrance: Light and floral.

Bloom time: Late mid-season tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May.

Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.

Plant size: 
1 year old tree peonies have 1 woody stem with a proportional root system. This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground.

When we ship: Fall 2019.

Potted stock available at the nursery for pick up this spring.
