Ling Flower Wet with Dew, Chinese tree peony
Name in Chinese and pin yin: 菱花湛露 Ling Hua Zhan Lu
Notable characteristics: Violet pink, ruffled, semi-double blossoms are well displayed on this rather low growing tree peony. Fragrant. This was one of the first cultivars we imported from China in the early 1990s. Very easy to grow and reliable bloomer. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: Central Plains cultivar group, bred by the Zhaolou Peony Garden, Heze, 1969.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Semi-spreading habit, grows to 2.5' tall and 4' wide.
Flower form and size: Ruffled semi-double form, to 7'. Begins blooming at an early age.
Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet, slight.
Bloom time: Early-season Chinese tree peony, always one of the first tree peonies to open in our USDA zone 6A garden, usually in the second week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have multiple woody stems and a proportional root system. This size plant will flower its first or second spring in the ground.

We operate like a CSA (community supported agriculture) where payment in received in advance of the harvest, and the produce is reserved for the customer. Our produce is our nursery stock, which can only be harvested in the fall, when the current season's growth is complete.
