Notable characteristics: Light pink blossoms have dark purple-black flares at the petal base. Majestic looking shrub when in full bloom. Fine foliage provide interest after the bloom season. Vigorous grower.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: Original seed from imported from Gansu province, China. This makes this plant a member of the Northwest Gansu (rockii) group.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright and spreading, grows to 5' tall and 5' wide.
Flower form and size: Single 5－7" and upward facing. Flowers held well above the foliage.
Flower fragrance: Spicy sweet. Very intoxicating.
Bloom time: Late-season Chinese tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: This 10 year old tree peony currently measures 5' tall and 4' wide with foliage, with 6 main woody trunks and numerous side branches.
When we ship: Order now for Fall 2016 shipping. We will dig this plant and pack the roots with moist coconut fiber for shipping. Our success rate for shipping older plants is excellent. Over the years, some of our older tree peony specimens have been sent across the country via UPS with great results, so if you live far from our nursery, do not let this deter you from acquiring some of our older plants.
