Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.

Cultivar group, hybridizer: Northwest cultivar group (Gansu) rockii Chinese tree peony, Chen Dezhong of the Peace Peony Garden in outside of the city of Lanzhou in Gansu Province.

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright habit, can reach 7' tall and 6' wide. Our "mother" plant is this large!

Flower form and size: Single, 8-10". Blossoms held well above the foliage.

Flower fragrance: Sweet.

Bloom time: Late-season Chinese tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the third week of May or first week of June.

Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9. Rockii tree peonies are particularly well suited for growing in the extremes of the tree peony's range. They are exceptionally cold hardy and drought/heat tolerant once well established.

Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have 1 heavy woody stem with offshoot buds and the start of more branching. Root system is strong and well balanced. Size with foliage the first year is about 18" tall. This size plant will most likely flower its second spring in the ground.

When we ship:
This plant will ship in FALL 2017 or spring 2018. Order to reserve now! We operate like a CSA (community supported agriculture) where payment in received in advance of the harvest, and the produce is reserved for the customer. Our produce is our nursery stock, which can only be harvested in the fall, when the current season's growth is complete.

About us: Cricket Hill Garden is a family owned and operated nursery founded in 1989 and based in Connecticut. We propagate and grow the vast majority of the plants we sell. Most garden centers and nurseries do the opposite of this, 'buying in' and reselling most plants they offer. Growing our own stock allows us to offer the rare and unusual plants we sell as well as provide the highest quality plants to the discerning gardener. We do not use synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fungicides in our nursery production.
