Name in Japanese and romaji: 八千代椿 Yachiyo tsubaki
Notable characteristics: Semi-double flowers in the perfect shade of pink. Leaves retain the purplish red color of young foliage into the summer. Vigorous.
Hybridizer, year introduced: Older cultivar from Japan, specifics unknown.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright, grows to 3.5' tall and 3.5' wide.
Flower form and size: Lotus semi-double, 8".
Flower fragrance: Very light, sweet.
Bloom time: Mid-season Japanese tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the third week of May.
