Notable characteristics: A fern-leaf type hybrid between the peony species P. tenufolia and P. lactiflora. Elegant, clear red, single to light semi-double blossoms. Fine, cut-leaf foliage makes it a very attractive plant even after the flowers have gone. Good landscape variety. Winner of both the APS Gold Medal and Award of Landscape Merit.

Growth habit and size at maturity : Upright and spreading, grows to 2.5' tall and 3' wide. Foliage will die back by September.
Flower form and size: Single form, to 5".
Flower fragrance: Light, sweet.
Bloom time: Early herbaceous peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the 1st to 2nd week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 4-5 'eye' or bud plants with a well developed root system. This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground.
