ORDERING FOR THIS TREE PEONY WILL OPEN IN LATE APRIL/EARLY MAY 2023. Sign up with the "Notify me when available" button to be emailed when this plant is available for purchase.
Name in Japanese & romaji: 醉顏 Suigan
Notable characteristics: Large flowers open mid-pink. Over the course of a few days, the blossoms undergo a transformation in which the outer parts of the petals lighten to almost white, while the interior seems to darken. Exposed green ovaries are prominently displayed. Sparse foliage and somewhat gangly growth habit contribute to this cultivar’s “drunken” appearance.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright, grows to 2.5' tall and 3.5' wide.
Flower form and size: Ruffled semi-double, 8".
Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet.
Bloom time: Mid- to late season Japanese tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old grafted tree peonies have 1 woody stem, with offshoot buds, and a graft root. The plant may or may not have some of its own roots already developed. This one may bloom its first spring in the ground, or will wait until the second spring.
When we ship: FALL 2023
