Dragon's Nest, herbaceous peony
Notable characteristics: The bold design of this fragrant peony will brighten your spring garden. Registered in 1933, and still noteworthy after 80 years in commerce. Flowers stand on erect stems that don't need staking. Anemone form, bright, reddish-pink outer petals contrast with yellowish-white centers. These center petals expand and elongate as the flower matures to a very showy finish. Vigorous grower that does not require staking, excellent landscape peony. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.
Cultivar group, hybridizer, year introduced: P. lactiflora, Auten, 1933.
Growth habit and size at maturity: Tall growing, to 36" tall and 36" wide.
Flower form and size: Anemone 'Japanese' form double, 5", upward facing.
Flower fragrance: Light sweet scent.
Bloom time: Mid to late seasons blooming herbaceous peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the first week of June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 4-5 'eyes' or buds with proportional roots. This size plant will most likely flower its first season in the ground.
