Pawpaw, 'Davis Select' seedling
Asimina triloba 'Davis Select'
Variety description: Seedling trees with an excellent genetic heritage, trees are likely to produce superior fruit. These seed grown trees come from seed stock collected from the pawpaw orchard of Corwin Davis of Bellevue, MI. In the 1970s and 80s, Davis assembled a large collection of both wild and cultivated pawpaws on the northern fringe of their range. Seedlings he raised from his orchard have become some of the most well-regarded and sought after cultivars. They include: 'Prolific,' 'IXL,' 'Lynn's Favorite,' and 'Taytwo.'
Seedling pawpaws usually come into bearing at age 7 or about 5-6 years after planting these pawpaw seedling trees.
Cross pollination from two genetically distinct plants necessary for fruit to set. Trees should be planted no more than 20' apart to ensure good pollination.
