Dark Pink Lotus, Seed grown tree peony
Notable characteristics: Mid- to-dark pink petals radiate from maroon center flares. A very attractive landscape plant, that will quickly grow into an impressive specimen. These seed grown plants are crosses of the Chinese Paeonia rockii and Japanese tree peonies. They are one-of-a-kind, seed grown plants,and there is some variability in flower form and color. These plants have all bloomed and are a shade of mid-to-dark pink with deep maroon flares at the base of the petals. Flower forms are all open, either single or light semi-double.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright, flowers held well above the foliage. Grows to about 4.5' tall and 4' wide.
Flower form and size: Lotus or light semi-double, 8-10". These plants tend to be very floriferous.
Flower fragrance: Sweet.
Bloom time: Mid-season blooming, flowers in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May or first week of June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 3 year old tree peonies usually have one-to-two woody stems and a well developed root system. Current size with foliage is 18-20" tall and wide. This size plant has flower buds set and will most likely flower its first spring in the ground.
5 year old tree peonies usually have 4-6 heavy woody stems and a well developed root system. Current size with foliage is 22-28 " tall and wide. This size plant has multiple flower buds set and will most likely flower its first spring in the ground.
