Beauty Yu Ji in a Red Dress, Chinese tree peony
Name in Chinese and pin yin: 虞姬顏裝 Yu Ji Yan Zhuang
Notable characteristics: This flower is named for Yu Ji, the consort of the general, Xiang Yu, who sought to become emperor of China after the collapse of the Qin dynasty in 209 CE. She accompanied him on his campaign against rival armies, but took her own life when it appeared that her lover's cause was lost. Today she is remembered as a great beauty who sacrificed everything for love. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.

Bloom time: Late mid-season tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week May.
Zone hardiness: Proven is USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have at least 1 woody stem and a proportional root system. This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground.
When we ship: This peony is for FALL 2017 shipping only. Order to reserve now! We operate like a CSA (community supported agriculture) where payment in received in advance of the harvest, and the produce is reserved for the customer. Our produce is our nursery stock, which can only be harvested in the fall, when the current season's growth is complete.
