Asian Pear, 'Shin Li'
Variety description (from Brooks and Olmo Register of Fruit and Nut Varieties): A fine textured, slightly pear-shaped Asian pear developed in California, a UC Davis breeding program. A cross between the Japanese cultivar 'Kikusui' and the Chinese cultivar Tse Li (Tsu Li)
Medium to large round fruit. Skin is thick, smooth, light green to yellow-green at maturity. Flesh is firm, tender, crisp, juicy and sweet with fine texture. Ripens early to mid-September. Stores 5-6 months.
Trees are vigorous, large to medium, upright to slightly spreading, open, and hardy. Blooms early, with 'Chojuro' and slightly later than 'Ya Li' and 'Tse Li'. Fruit must be thinned. Resistant to fire blight.
Site requirements: Full sun location. Pears will grow in a range of soil types provided the planting location is well drained. Soil pH of 6.5 is ideal.
Hardiness: USDA zones 5-9.
Plant size: Grafted tree, 24" with strong central leader.
