Abalone Pearl, hybrid herbaceous peony
Notable characteristics: Blossoms are well-formed light semi-doubles. Flowers appear to be glowing coral-pink cups with radiant golden centers. This plant invites both bees and humans to stop and admire. One of the first of the coral pink hybrid peonies to bloom.
'Abalone Pearl' is a cultivar registered by the prolific hybridizer William Kreckler of Sommerville, Ohio. Beginning in the 1940s, Kreckler collected what he judged to be the "800 best peonies varieties one [could] obtain." The diverse genetics of this collection provided a fertile basis for the 380 new cultivars which Mr. Kreckler registered with the American Peony Society over his lifetime. 'Abalone Pearl' is one of his beautiful peony achievements.
