Name in Chinese and pin yin: 紫蝶迎風 Zi Die Ying Feng
Notable characteristics: This peony's evocative name aptly captures its appearance in bloom, that of a butterfly dancing with the warm breeze on a spring day.
Cultivar group, hybridizer, year introduced: Rockii, Chen Dezhong of the Peace Peony Garden, Lanzhou, China, 1994.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright and slightly spreading, grows to 4' tall and 4' wide.
Flower form and size: Lotus or Semi-double, 8-10".
Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet. One customer told us that a single cut flower perfumed an entire room.
Bloom time: Mid-season tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the third week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven is USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have at least 1 woody stem and a proportional root system. This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground.
When we ship: Reserve for SPRING 2019 shipping to all USDA zone 4-8. USDA ZONE 9 CAN SHIP DEC.-FEB. for planting in cool weather.
We operate like a CSA (community supported agriculture) where payment in received in advance of the harvest, and the produce is reserved for the customer. Our produce is our nursery stock, which can only be harvested in the fall, when the current season's growth is complete.

We do not use synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fungicides in our nursery production.
