Notable characteristics: Blossoms are light, creamy pink-lavender, with dark purple flares at the petal base. One of the most vigorous rockii tree peonies in our garden. Our original specimen plant is now 16 years old and measures 7' tall and 6' wide. If you have the space, make room for this beauty in your garden.Deer resistant. Cultivar group, hybridizer: Northwest cultivar group (Gansu) rockii Chinese tree peony, Chen Dezhong of the Peace Peony Garden in outside of the city of Lanzhou in Gansu Province.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright habit, can reach 7' tall and 6' wide. Our "mother" plant is this large!
Flower form and size: Single, 8-10". Blossoms held well above the foliage.
Flower fragrance: Sweet.
Bloom time: Late-season Chinese tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the third week of May or first week of June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9. Rockii tree peonies are particularly well suited for growing in the extremes of the tree peony's range. They are exceptionally cold hardy and drought/heat tolerant once well established.
Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have 1 heavy woody stem with offshoot buds and the start of more branching. Root system is strong and well balanced. Size with foliage the first year is about 18" tall. This size plant will most likely flower its second spring in the ground.
