Notable characteristics: Large, 8" lotus form blossoms are pinkish blue with small dark flares at the base of the petals. Vigorous grower and prolific, early bloomer. Highly recommended for the first time tree peony grower and connoisseur collector alike.

This classical variety originates from Jianshi county in Hubei province, where it was traditionally grown as a medicinal plant. Because of its vigorous growth habit and large flowers, it was introduced to the famous peony growing city of Heze, in Shandong province, as an ornamental.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: E‘xi cultivar group of western Hubei province.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright habit, grows to 4.5' tall and 4' wide.
Flower form and size: Lotus, to 8".
Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet.
Bloom time: Early-season Chinese tree peony, always one of the first tree peonies to open in our USDA zone 6A garden, usually in the second week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have 1 heavy woody stem, with offshoot buds, and a well developed root system. Size of plant with foliage the first year is about 18" tall. This size plant will likely flower its second spring in the ground.
