Name in Chinese and pin yin: 冠群芳 Guan Qun Fang

Notable characteristics: This is a strong grower that we have tested for many years; its among the best dark maroon tree peonies. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.

Cultivar group, area of origin: Central Plains group, Heze Flower Garden, 1971.

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Semi-spreading, grows to 3.5' tall and 4' wide.

Flower form and size: Semi-double to full double, 8".

Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet.

Bloom time: Mid-season tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the second or third week of May.

Zone hardiness: Proven is USDA zones 4-9.

Plant size: 1 year old grafted tree peonies have 1 woody stem, with offshoot buds, and a graft root. The plant may or may not have some of its own roots already developed. This one may bloom its first spring in the ground, or will wait until the second spring.
