Notable characteristics: Unique in form, this tree peony has been pruned and trained over a 6 year period to a tall singular woody trunk, with a shaped multi-branched globe form on top. This is a one-of-a-kind, 6 year old plant, 28" tall without the foliage. Estimate height when in leaf and flower this season is 34" tall.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright, vigorous grower, flowers held well above the foliage. Grows to about 42" tall and 30" wide. Topiary form tree peonies do need to be pruned so additional branches which sprout at the base are removed, to keep the form.
Flower form and size: These full, ruffled flowers have multi-rows of silky petals, opening to 7-8" in size.
Flower fragrance: Sweet, spicy fragrance.
Bloom time: Early-season blooming, flowers in our USDA zone 6a garden in the second week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven is USDA zones 4-9.
