Renown, hybrid tree peony
Notable characteristics: Iridescent, light copper red petals make up the elegant single form flowers of this hybrid tree peony. Finely cut foliage stays healthy until autumn, adding summer long interest to this fine cultivar. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: P. lutea hybrid, Saunders, 1949.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright, to 4.5' tall and 3' wide.
Flower form and size: Single blossoms, 5-6". Flowers held above the foliage.
Flower fragrance: Slight.
Bloom time: Late Mid-season hybrid tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May and first week of June. Like 'High Noon', this tree peony will re-bloom in the late summer and early fall when conditions are right.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have 1 woody stem, with offshoot buds, and a well developed root system. This one may bloom its first spring in the ground, or will wait until the second spring.
