Boreas, hybrid tree peony
Notable characteristics: Very dark burgundy red, semi-double. Petals are ruffled, turning in and out in different directions as though a strong wind is blowing with great force. Named for the Greek god of the north wind. Blossoms look and feel as though made of velvet. Fragrant. Good stem strength. Foliage soft.
This hybrid tree peony was bred by Nassos Daphnis, an talented artist who left an indelible mark on the worlds of horticulture and painting.
Cultivar group, hybridizer: P. lutea hybrid, Daphnis.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Upright and spreading, to 4' tall and 4' wide.
Flower form and size: Single, 5-7".
Flower fragrance: Light, sweet.
Bloom time: Late-season hybrid tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the first week of June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old tree peonies have 1 woody stem, with side buds, and a well developed root system. This one may bloom its first spring in the ground, or will wait until the second spring.
When we ship: This plant will ship in FALL 2020. Order to reserve now! We operate like a CSA (community supported agriculture) where payment in received in advance of the harvest, and the produce is reserved for the customer. Our produce is our nursery stock, which can only be harvested in the fall, when the current season's growth is complete.
