Notable characteristics: Fine, white, etching on the edges of the petals look like embroidery details that gives this unusual flower its name. We find the voluminous dark maroon-red blossoms of this cultivar very enticing. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.

Hybridizer and year introduced: Hybridizer unknown. This cultivar originates from the area around Yokahama, Japan and dates to around 1905.

Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Semi-spreading habit, grows to 3' tall and 4' wide.

Flower form and size: Single blossoms to 6".

Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet, slight.

Bloom time: Late mid-season tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May.

Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.

Plant size: 
1 year old tree peonies have 1 woody stem with a proportional root system. This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground.
