Variety description: Large fruit, yellow flesh; ripens first or second week of October in the Northeast. Selected by the famous pawpaw breeder Corwin Davis of Bellevue, MI, in mid-1980s. 'Prolific' comes into bearing a few years before other pawpaw varieties. Flavor is excellent, with a distinct coconut element. It also has a slight bitter finish, which is not at all off putting, and likened by some to black coffee.
Very vigorous grower, with longer and straighter leaves than most pawpaw varieties, adding an extra element of interest to this tree as a landscape subject.
