Roy Pehrson's Best Yellow, hybrid herbaceous peony
Notable characteristics: Soft true yellow single flower with good, solid substance. Medium height grower with strong stems and dark green foliage. A vigorous grower, excellent for mass landscape plantings. Fertile seeds and pollen. Will ready self-sow.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: Hybrid, Pehrson, 1982.
Growth habit and size at maturity: Upright, grows to 32'' tall and wide. Very good stem strength.
Flower form and size: Single, 4" and upward facing. Excellent variety for landscape planting or cut flowers.
Flower fragrance: Mild.
Bloom time: Early-season hybrid peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 3-9.
Plant size: 4-5 'eye' plants with a well developed root system. This size plant will likely flower its first spring in the ground, though it may need another season.
