Paeonia, 'Good Cheer' hybrid herbaceous peony
Notable characteristics: Single form flowers in bright vermillion. This famous Saunders' hybrid has been used as a parent plant for many advanced generation double form red hybrids. Fertile with other tetraploid peonies. Very useful for breeding.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: Inter-species hybrid, Saunders, 1942.
Growth habit and size at maturity : Upright and spreading, grows to just under 2' tall and 2.5' wide. Excellent dark green foliage.
Flower form and size: Single form, to 4".
Flower fragrance: Light.
Bloom time: Mid season hybrid herbaceous peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the last week of May to first week of June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: Field dug bare root, 4-5 'eye' plants with a well developed root system.
