Pyrus pyrifolia 'Hosui'

Variety description: 'Hosui' bears large, delicious fruit which measures about 3" x 3". Golden brown russeted skin has enlarged lenticels (pores). Crisp flesh, very juicy and swee; 'Hosui' means "much water" in Japanese. This is a very reliable variety which is widely planted in commercial orchards.

Ripens late August to early September in Connecticut. Fruit stores well. Very showy bloom. Partially self-fertile, yields are increased with cross pollination from another late blooming Asian pear. Grafted onto cold hardy semi-dwarf rootstock. This a vigorous grower and can be maintained at 15' when mature. 

Site requirements: Full sun location. Asian pears will grow in a range of soil types provided the planting location is well drained. Soil pH of 6.5 is ideal.

Hardiness: USDA zones 5-9.

Plant size: Tree, 2-3' tall with strong central leader. Grafted onto OHxF 97 rootstock.
