Aronia Berry

Black aronia (Aronia melanocarpa) is a North American native shrub that offers a beautiful spring display of blossoms, attractive dark green summer foliage and very nutritious berries which ripen in late summer. In recent years, the various health benefits of aronia berries have become more widely known in the US, though it has been a popular fruit in Eastern Europe for decades.

In a strange twist of horticultural history, the two most popular cultivars of this native fruit originated from the breeding work of plant scientist I. V. Michurin, the 'Luther Burbank of Russia,' who developed them in the Soviet Union in the 1920s.
