Praised in literature and here, named for a peony representative of female allure. A crown of kingfisher feathers was a favorite ornament of women of the Chinese elite in imperial times. At maturity, multi-toned pinkish-red flowers bloom in the full double form, sometimes with green petioles. When plants are young, the blossoms are in the semi-double form. This plant has sweet fragrance, vigorous growth and numerous up-facing flowers. Proven for USDA zones 4-9. Plants are semi-spreading, growing to 4 ft. tall and wide by the tenth year. These 4+ year old plants will have at least 4 thick woody stems and a well developed root system, just the right size to thrive in your garden. Plants have great flower buds formed for spring.
