Peach Blossom Changing Three Times San Zhuan Tao Hua
This is a classical cultivar from northwest China (specifically around the cities of Lintao and Linxia in Gansu Province) which we are excited to now be able to offer.
RARE AND LIMITED STOCK. Grows well in a wide area, tolerant of heat and cold, from USDA 4-9.
In China's Gansu Province, in the far northwest, they grow hundreds of variations of rockii tree peonies. One of our biggest problems is sorting them out and trying to evaluate which ones are best.
This particular one, known as 'Peach Blossom Changing Three Times' has long been noted as an excellent cultivar for its large, fragrant flowers and vigorous growth habit.
Flowers first opens in distinct pink tone, and then gradually fade to many shades of pink. Unlike some of us, this beauty ages gracefully! The blossoms are 7-8" in diameter, in a multi-petal crown form. In the center of the flower, the petals are marked with a maroon flare, which gives you clues to its rockii heritage. Fragrant flowers are held well above the foliage.
All rockii hybrids are vigorous and tall growing,
and extremely floriferous. Expect these to grow into large specimen shrubs, multi-branched, 5 ft. tall and 4 ft. wide by the 8-to-10th year. If space is an issue, they
may be pruned after blooming to keep them smaller.
Plant is judged as a 3 year old size, with at least 2 thick woody stems, size now is 24-28" tall.
This peony can be shipped in fall dormancy to USDA zones 4-9. Order and reserve early. If you would like to visit, we do have this one potted for purchase at the nursery this spring.
