Early Scout - American herbaceous peony
Introduced by Auten in 1952, an APS Gold Medal Winner, and Award of Landscape Merit Winner.
A very early blooming single to semi-double hybrid with bright-red flowers above finely cut ferny foliage. The plant height is 20-22" and will spread to 24-36".
This peony is very early to bloom in the season, ahead of the tree peonies by a week or more. A cross between species P. tenufolia and P. lactiflora, which created very interesting foliage. <
Beautiful foliage is quite heat resistant and forms a nicely rounded bush with strong stems — staking not required. Plant in full sun in well drained soil. Can be used as a cut flower; excellent for a rock garden or in front of perennial border for early spring color.
This peony can be shipped in fall dormancy to USDA zones 4-9. Order and reserve early. If you would like to visit, we do have this one potted for purchase at the nursery this spring.
