Native to northern China and Japan, where it blooms in April. It is outstanding for its coral-red flower color and fragrant small, 1" yellow-green fruits in late summer. The fruit can be used to make preserves. In China, traditionally the fruit is arranged in a bowl to perfume the air with a sweet citrus-like fragrance. In our Connecticut garden, quince blooms in late April to early May. Often planted as a hedge in full or half sun. Tolerant of various soil types, pH 4 to 6.5, USDA zones 5-8.
Plant size- 2-3 feet.
