Native to northern China and Japan, where it blooms in April. It is outstanding for its coral-red flower color and fragrant small, 1" yellow-green fruits in late summer. The fruit can be used to make preserves, or traditionally, to fragrance a room. In our Connecticut garden, it blooms in May. Often planted as a hedge in full or half sun.
