In North China, we have seen this plant blooming in botanical gardens. It blooms for a 2-3 week period, about the same time as the tree peonies. Here in CT, that is early-May to late May.
This shrub does not mind some shade in the afternoon. It is NOT susceptible to common fungal diseases, and we do NO spraying. Stems stay bright green in winter, adding interest to the garden.
Requires at least 6 hrs. of sun, well-drained soil, pH of near 6.0. Size will reach 5 to 6 ft. tall and 3 ft. wide in about 3 years from planting. May be pruned to make it smaller. Grows well in USDA zones 5-8. Size of plant now is about 3 feet, and multi-branched. Carefree and easy to grow.
